How is this a solar light if it is under water (ie the pool) by day?
The solar panel is seperate from the pond light, you can stick the solar panel on ground and put the submersible light under water.

warm light or cool the solar powered light is ？
hello not sure what u mean by warm light or cool it does have a setting for low or high lighting from the instructions high light mode 4-6 hours low light mode 8-12 hrs i keep mine on low light and it gives off good light.i have my light inside a 20 inch pot shining up at a lions head with water spout in the mouth.there is a base on the light that comes off i did put some small rocks in it to keep it from moving around and i actually think mine moves because of water pressure from the pump i could use pump with less pressure then probably would not be a problem but im very happy with it timothy.
Does this light automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn?
yes thats how mine works. Very happy with it.

What are the dimensions of the light itself? I want to place it inside an existing fixture.
it's a decent size. the face is about 4.5 inches around. from front to back, about 6 inches. it is very bright. I placed it behind my waterfall in the pool and it looked like a train coming at me. had to change it.
